The Golden Age of Irish Genealogy
Irish genealogical research has often been seen as difficult due to the lack of source material caused by our troubled past. However, all that has changed recently and happily we now find ourselves living in a Golden Age of Irish Genealogy. Join Tony Hennessy to hear all about it.
About Tony Hennessy
Tony is a professional genealogist and a member of Accredited Genealogists Ireland. He has been involved in the world of genealogy for almost 40 years. He undertakes genealogical research for both native Irish and members of our diaspora, in approximately equal measure.
Tony specializes in drawing bespoke family tree charts, some of which have been presented to the mayors of Chicago and Boston, US Senator Bernie Sanders, and various business leaders etc. Although he is just as happy drawing family trees for private individuals who have a passion for family history and a desire to have their family story saved for future generations.
Tony has recently collaborated with the Travelling Community and the National Library of Ireland on a series of Traveller family trees, including five Waterford Traveller family trees, that are now part of the NLI Collection.
For the past eleven years, Tony has been teaching on genealogy courses at UCC and UL and has run a very popular 10-week genealogy course in Waterford since 2010.
Tony is a native of Waterford City. He has been coming to Annestown, to embrace the many benefits it has to offer, since he was a child, as had his parents since their own young days. About sixteen years ago he moved, with his wife Caroline and three children, to Annestown. His home office overlooks the sea and the village, which is not great as he gets no work done!
